Global Xchange
Global Xchange aims to support the development of active global citizens, committed to working for positive change within communities.
The Global Xchange programme is a six-month exchange programme which gives young people from different countries a unique opportunity to work together, to develop and share valuable skills and to make a practical contribution where it is needed in local communities.
The GX Partnership
VSO
VSO is an international development charity that works through volunteers. VSO was voted top international development charity in the International Aid and Development category at the Charity Awards 2004 for its work in promoting innovative approaches to globalising volunteering.
Its approach to volunteering has changed dramatically over the years. Today the average age of a volunteer is 38 and most placements are for two years. Global Xchange is part of our Youth programme which aims to give opportunities for people aged 18 – 25 to volunteer around the world.
Voluntary Service Overseas VSO’s vision is a world without poverty in which people work together to fulfil their potential. Instead of sending food or money, we send women and men from a wide range of professions who want the chance to make a real difference in the fight against poverty. These volunteers work in partnership with colleagues and communities to share skills and learning and achieve positive change together.
British Council
The British Council is UK’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities. Through the ties that it creates between people in the UK and other countries, it helps to break down the barriers to understanding and to building lasting relationships.

Global Xchange supporters:
BAA 21st Century Communities Trust
BAA Communities Trust is cementing its partnership with VSO to support the Global Xchange programme for the third year in a row.
The Trust, set up by airport operator BAA, is providing backing for four programmes during 2006 and 2007, linked to the communities around BAA’s South East airports.
To help fund the programmes, the Trust is working with v, a new youth volunteering charity launched by the UK Government in May 2006.
V, the youth volunteering charity
V. It’s the first letter in volunteering. It’s also the name of the independent charity championing youth volunteering in England.
v exists to inspire a new generation of young volunteers (aged 16-25) in England and enable a lasting change in the quality, quantity and diversity of youth volunteering.
v was launched in May with a key objective of inspiring 1 million more young people to volunteer. The Government has set aside up to £50 million over three years to support the nationwide initiative.
Global Xchange local partners in Bangladesh
YPSA
A social development organization called YPSA ( Young Power in Social Action) began its course of participation in the development process in Bangladesh in 1985, and as global partnership of VSO organises and overseas the Bangladesh components of the exchange.
NAGORIK UDDYOG
The name “Nagorik Uddyog” (“The Citizen’s Initiative”) itself epitomizes the essence of the organization’s activities. Firstly, NU helps the general masses in Bangladesh understand their rights as citizens. Secondly, it provides an enabling condition for the people to set up institutions and mobilize themselves. The philosophy guiding the principles of NU is institutionalization of democracy at the grassroots level.
